Until recently, the federal government told us that there were 12 million illegal aliens living in the United States, a few months ago, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano lowered that number to 10.8 million. Despite the fact that the official number is contrary to the Border Patrol’s own data, a recent study shows that the illegal alien population in several U.S. states has exploded in recent years.
Using data from the Pew Hispanic Center, the financial trading website known as Insider Monkey published a study last week listing the top ten states with the largest growth in illegal alien populations.
The study reflects the changes in those states from 2005-2009.
The results are as follows:
10. Tie between Ohio and Wisconsin: 20,000 more illegal aliens in each of those states, an increase of 20 percent.
9. Missouri: 20,000 more illegal aliens.
8. Connecticut: 25,000 more illegal aliens.
7. Oregon: 30,000 more illegal aliens.
6. New Mexico: 30,000 more illegal aliens.
5. Indiana: 35,000 more illegal aliens, an increase of 41 percent.
4. Louisiana: 40,000 more illegal aliens, an increase of 160 percent.
3. Alabama: 70,000 more illegal aliens, an increase of 117 percent.
2. Illinois: 175,000 more illegal aliens.
1. Texas: 200,000 more illegal aliens.
This study aside, the way the feds arrive at their numbers is as absurd as their assertion that we can maintain law and order without actually defending our borders.
In 1986, President Ronald Reagan granted amnesty to the nation’s illegal alien population. At the time, we were told that population totaled between two to three million. However, amnesty was actually granted to more than three million who crossed our borders illegally.
Washington arbitrarily estimates that every year since 1986, a half million illegal aliens take up residence in this country, either by over-staying their visa or by crossing into this country illegally.
Additionally, they believe that the one million illegal aliens who did not qualify for the 1986 Amnesty (many were criminals), simply stayed anyway.
When you multiply a half million by 22 years, then add the additional million criminal aliens to the total, you have 12 million illegal aliens.
That is the figure which U.S. politicians pushing for amnesty constantly espouse. These same politicians never take the time to explain to us just how they came up with that figure.
However, the U.S. Border Patrol places a much higher estimate on the number of illegal aliens now in this country. For many years, the number of apprehensions at the border averaged about one million.
When you then use the very conservative estimate that at least three times that many got away, over 22 years, along with all of the people who never return home after their visa has expired, you get a much different number.
Using the Border Patrol’s own data and considering the relative ease with which drug smugglers and illegal aliens make multiple crossings into this country, the more realistic number is much closer to 50-60 million.

I would really put that number at about the 20 million mark if not even more. Meanwhile our elected officials like Lindsey GrahAmnesty are frothing at the mouth about sending American women and men to the Middle East to be maimed or die in yet another war for Israel and protecting its borders against Iran. Yet these same elected traitors like GrahAmnesty, Juan McAmnesty, and Joe LIEbermann the Israel firster remain totally devoted to protecting a foreign country like Israel's borders and people, but they could care less about protecting America and American citizens.
The truth is the Feds don't know how many. Even if they did, they wouldn't tell us without lying about it.
Just as unemployment is at 22.5% when measured by 1980 methods, the Feds skew numbers all the time so they look better than they really are.

The U.S. Border Patrol's estimate of 50-60 million illegal aliens in this country is alarming and gives us a very good reason to use attrition regarding jobs, mortgages, opening bank accounts,etc, strengthen interior enforcement, secure our borders, and clarify the 14th Amendment.

There have been mulitiple programs allowing "real Americans" to do migrant labor. There have been no takers.
Grueling labor for $4/hr isn't something Americans will do. Go ask some farmers.

Hey Mr. Roy - farmers can mechanize or pay a living wage or go broke as far as I'm concerned. Farmers have been huge enablers for these criminal aliens and the costs associated with their presence. I WILL call it a billion. Come to my neighborhood for a weekend and watch the parade of very young noticably pregnant south american girls pushing baby carriages (each with two and three children (all under 5 years old.) There is a very serious problem with granting citizenship to the children of illegals. The government-media cartel has been using "8-12 million illegal aliens" for ten years, and no one in authority has ever questioned it. The illegals have been spilling over the Mexican border for that same period, with estimates as high as 10,000 per day. You failed to subtract the number that leave the US every year, some leave permanently, most return again. I agree the government number is low, but 50 million is too high. It's probably about 20 million, with anchor babies 25 to 30 million.

Others--including many experts--are at the 30 million level and some like Lou Dobbs are still stuck at 20 million as they've been for the last 4 years.

OPERATION STREAMLINE - a program that brings low-level criminal charges
against some of the illegal immigrants caught crossing parts of the U.S.-Mexico border.
Such a paltry amount of fence, but this rather small amount of fence
helped immensely in slowing down the invasion by illegals..
We just need a lot more of it!

With the border throttle running wide open, I can't help but wonder how many terrorists come across and affiliate themselves with sleeper cells. The government's blind eye to the open-border crisis is going to bite us squarely in the a** with terrorist attacks from within. And how serious is cargo inspection on incoming ships and planes? It's a joke!
Perhaps at some point, when the population of illegals reaches some critical mass, Mexico and the South American countries will declare the US a Hispanic/Latino colony.

Raef, you're half right. The CAPS Panel Study featured 7 panelist experts. They split on their findings. Half said "20 million" and half said "38 million". When quoting this study, you should give both numbers. I realize that the January 2005 Bear Stearns Report was "18 or 20 million or more".

As he states, they say they got their figures from the Pew which of course gets its figures from the Fed. Govt--from the CENSUS. Neither the Pew nor the CENSUS are reliable and grossly undercount the number of illegals in the U.S. Warof2010 wisely states that the BP boots on the ground say the only 1 in 7 are apprehended. Dave G. is wise to mention the overstayers. The last figure I saw on them from Mike Cutler was "40% of all legal aliens are overstayers". We let in almost 2 million LEGAL aliens on various visas every year. 40% of 2 million is 800,000 overstayer illegals per year. Add those to the 1.5 to 3 million who break in and aren't caught every year (roughly 5,000 to 10,000 daily) and as this has been going on for 24 years (since the 1986 Amnesty was passed) and you figure in the high of 4 million in 2005 (the TIME Magazine article), you come up with 50 million NOT INCLUDING the millions who were here PRIOR TO 1986!! Thus, the 50 to 60 million that Dave G. quotes. Insider Monkey is out to lunch on using the Pew and CENSUS, however. They quote CA as having 2.5 million illegals now!! That's a laugh. The figure is somewhere bet. 10 and 20 million as I see it. They show less than 1 million in NY State which is also a joke as are their figures for Texas.
So, the Insider Monkey figures--both for the states where illegals want to live and those they don't want to live in--are absurd as they use the absurdly low Pew/CENSUS figures. Dave Gibson's math/figures are, I believe, the way to go, the figures that are accurate.
