Present!Alec: "Why is someone lying about who they are, Kiera? That would be terrible."
“Minute of Silence” is the May 30 episode of "Continuum." Warning: this article does contain spoilers for tonight's episode. Be sure to check out the slideshow for more quotes from the episode. “Continuum" airs Friday nights at 9 p.m. CT on Syfy.
Someone is stealing technology from big businesses. This thief is skilled in the art of parkour. It's intense. The best part about this case, beside watching the thief rob people, is the voluntary interview with Present!Alec, Carlos, and Dillon. It shows that Present!Alec and Piron have access to all police files, and it shows how smart Present!Alec is. I like how casually he mentions how Dillon’s computer has been hacked and the webcam is currently on. Double check your webcam light isn't on, people! Graypoint Security could be watching.
John Doe wakes up in the hospital, and he remembers nothing but the name Kiera Cameron. This is definitely intriguing. As the episode progresses, we learn he is most likely from the future. I mean the future shot of the episode is of people getting their citizenship removed, and mystery guy has no ID or medical history that Kiera can find. He might be tied to that illegal clinic, or maybe he comes from a future that Kiera doesn't know. A lot has changed in the present, so it wouldn't be surprising if the future has changed as well.
Carlos decides that Present!Alec needs to be brought in on the dead Kiera situation. Okay, so it isn't the smartest thing that Carlos could have done, but it shows that he is still trying to deal with this situation. Carlos and Kiera have been back to normal, but it is nice that the writers address that Carlos is still processing it all. Present!Alec takes it…weirdly. He cuts into Kiera's body. I mean talk about shady. It’s curious, yes, but what kind of person can cut into their friend's dead body? Any theories on what Present!Alec is looking for? Her CMR, perhaps?
Kiera and mystery guy bond really quickly. There is some flirting, which felt really weird. We don’t need romance to be a factor. Mystery guy knowing nothing but Kiera's name is intriguing enough as it is. It would have been great to learn more about the flashes he gets. Mystery guy says he sees faces, but he didn't recognize Kiera so who does he see? It would be interesting if he saw someone from Liber8. Hopefully the writers continue to unravel the mystery behind this guy, and it doesn't end up like another Curtis situation.
Speaking of Curtis, he randomly appears as Kiera and mystery guy leave the motel. He attacks Kiera, which makes a little sense. Maybe he wanted to kill her off or maybe it was just instinct because you know Kiera wasn't going to let him just walk away. Still, we know nothing about Curtis or his agenda. The only good thing his appearance does in this episode is reveal that mystery guy has mad moves. Because of this, Kiera is able to deduce he was military from the future.
Carlos gets a tip from Lucas, and he follows it. This is a good start to showing Carlos maybe swaying a bit towards Liber8. It is nice that Carlos doesn't follow Lucas' tip blindly. Kiera and Carlos were already suspicious of Graypoint Security. Also, what is really great, is that this episode shows that Betty was right – all Dillon needs are facts in front of him. Dillon is no longer singing the Liber8 tune when it comes to who killed Betty. There is hope for him after all. I worry about Dillon.
