A construction worker at the Brazil World Cup Stadium died when he fell off the roof. This is the third death at a World Cup Stadium in less than 30 days. Two workers died when a crane collapsed in the San Paolo stadium last month.
Brazil has been working hard to get their stadiums in good condition as they are hosting the World Cup (soccer) this summer. However, work has been halted a couple of times due to the accidents mentioned above. Aside from construction issues, there have also been major security concerns following a violent fight at a recent soccer game.
The most recent construction accident happened in Manaus at the Arena Amazonia. According to ABC, another worker died of a heart attack outside of the venue just a few hours after this worker fell from the roof. Brazil has been accused of providing "inadequate conditions offered to laborers" and the latest string of deaths is alarming.
The man who fell from the roof has been identified as 22-year-old Marcleudo de Melo Ferreira. He is the second person to die inside the venue since construction began in 2010 according to ABC News. The man who suffered a heart attack was paving outside of the venue. He was 49-years-old.
