Fresh off the release of their new EP "Unleashed," Conspirator's 28 city U.S. tour rolls through Colorado for a workmanlike six shows in six days. Hopefully, on the seventh day they rest, as does anyone who treks the 750 odd miles with the increasingly solidified four-piece.
The one time minor side-project of Aaron Magner and Marc Brownstein - keyboardist and bassist for The Disco Biscuits - Conspirator enters 2013 on a tear. "Unleashed" is intense and more bass-heavy (if possible) than anything previously released. Conspirator shows have always left venues trembling and this release manages to capture that sensation.
This is a fresh interpretation of dubstep, far from that used in commercials by Fortune 500 companies to hawk web browsers. This is the dubstep that triggers car alarms and induces heart conditions. But, it still manages to be melodic with expertly executed transitions between the two extremes.
Example A: PowWow Wait for it...
Drum and bass drummer extraordinaire Kj Sawka (Pendulum) and guitarist Chris Michetti (RAQ) fully consummate the union of EDM and instrumentalism that Magner and Brownstein were working toward. Listening to "Unleashed" it's easy to forget that these guys are doing it with actual instruments...which makes it all the more impressive.
The tour kicks off in Breckenridge at Three20South on May 18 (probably one of the more intimate venues you'll catch Conspirator at these days) before heading through Vail, Crested Butte, Aspen and Ft. Collins, eventually closing things out at the Ogden Theater in Denver. The rest of the tour sees the band heading east and eventually hitting the summer festival circuit.
