Consider a donation to Dumb Friends League instead of exchanging a gift

Especially if you have quit believing in Santa, exchanging gifts often occurs out of a feeling of obligation. A trinket, sweater, pair of earrings or bottle of wine are well received, however, it may be more heartwarming to make a donation in a friend’s name. The Denver Dumb Friends League (DDFL), founded in 1910, can continue to support the numerous dogs (and cats) in their shelters through the generous donations received from animal lover’s care and concern for the animals in their shelters.

Through December 31, 2013, DDFL is holding their holiday Fund Drive with the goal of raising $200,000. The money will allow them to continue to give shelter and provide veterinary care to those in their care until they find a new forever home. Donations may be mailed to: DDFL, Dept. 1884, Denver, CO 80291-1884 or online donations may be made at ddlf.org/kate.

Kate was a sweet little beagle that was tearfully given to DDFL by her former owner who had health issues and was no longer able to care for the pup. Kate needed surgery to remove several tumors and treat dental disease before she was adopted into her new forever home. To give more dogs like Kate a second chance, donations are crucial to allow DDFL to continue helping homeless pets in our community.

  • $15 can help vaccinate a cat or dog
  • $25 can help spay or neuter a pet prior to adoption
  • $50 can help a pet receive emergency surgery

Another option to support DDFL is the “Paws to Give” fund drive. Through January 5, 2014 donations to the drive provide comfort and share joy by remembering homeless pets. Stop by any of their three facilities during this holiday season to fill out a "paw" decoration with a donation amount and a message for the staff and animals, which then is displayed on their walls. This is also a great opportunity to visit the shelters with your family, view the animals in their care, and teach and share the spirit of giving.

Donations are also accepted on-line or by mailing a check to Dumb Friends League Paws to Give, 2080 S. Quebec St., Denver, CO 80231.

The Dumb Friends League is a Four Star Charity Navigator-rated organization and a Better Business Bureau (BBB) Accredited charity. This is a promise and assurance of the highest level of financial stewardship of gifts, and a guarantee that you're supporting and involved in a highly reputable non-profit.
