Conservatives turn on Glenn Beck over ‘caliphate’ conspiracy theory

Over the past 18 months Glenn Beck has become something akin to the Rush Limbaugh of television.  Like Limbaugh, many conservatives and Republicans likely disagree with much of Beck’s harsh rhetoric and ultra-conservative positions.  However, few, if any, are willing to speak out against the two men for fear of the backlash that may result.  By all accounts Limbaugh still retains this status, but there are signs that more of the conservative world is starting to turn on Beck.  Recently a number of notable conservatives have criticized Beck over his "caliphate conspiracy theory" on Egypt.

For those unfamiliar with Beck caliphate theory, Beck believes that the fall of President Hosni Mubarak, who has ruled the country as a dictator for 30 years, will lead the election of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.  Other experts have pointed out that the Muslim Brotherhood does not have majority support in Egypt, but needless to say Beck disagrees.  The fall of Egypt, under Beck's theory, will then lead to the fall of every other nation in the Middle East along with India, Australia, Portugal, Spain, France, and even the United Kingdom.  These countries will all be united under a Islamic leader called a "caliph" and eventually this caliphate will rule over America as well.  Under Beck's conspiracy theory, the fall of Egypt which eventually endanger the way of life for every small town American.

Of course, liberals have called Beck paranoid and crazy as they usually do.  However, this time around some conservatives seem to be joining them.  Most notable is William Kristol, a frequent contributor on Fox News and a harsh critic of the Obama administration, who wrote of Beck's theory,

"But hysteria is not a sign of health. When Glenn Beck rants about the caliphate taking over the Middle East from Morocco to the Philippines, and lists (invents?) the connections between caliphate-promoters and the American left, he brings to mind no one so much as Robert Welch and the John Birch Society. He's marginalizing himself, just as his predecessors did back in the early 1960s."

Kristol wrote that column in The Weekly Standard, a popular publication among conservatives.  Time's Joe Klein also reports that many prominent Republicans approached Fox News owners Rupert Murdoch and President Roger Ailes complaining about Beck.  The Republicans reportedly aruged that Beck is damaging the brand of the Republican Party with his far-out theories.

Last November Limbaugh also seemed to take issue with at least one of Beck's theories.  When a caller asked Limbaugh whether he should follow Beck's advice to start storing food, Limbaugh dismissed the idea as silly.  Beck might be left with a very small audience when his ideas are considered too extreme for Bill Kristol and Rush Limbaugh.  This might explain's Beck ratings decrease of 50% over the last year.

    "Clinton cautiously welcomes Brotherhood talks"
"Today we learned the Muslim Brotherhood decided to participate, which suggests they at least are now involved in the dialogue that we have encouraged," Clinton told National Public Radio (NPR) from Germany. "

"Tide turns in favour of Egypt's Brotherhood in revolt"
"Mubarak's Vice President Omar Suleiman met opposition groups on Sunday in talks joined for the first time by the Brotherhood."

HOW DARE Beck lie about the MB and their place in Egypt and the entire area!

"U.S. [Alleged] President Barack Obama met with members of Egypt's Islamist opposition movement, the Muslim Brotherhood, earlier this year, according to a report in Thursday editions of the Egyptian daily newspaper Almasry Alyoum.

The newspaper reported that Obama met the group's members, who reside in the U.S. and Europe, in Washington two months ago.
According to the report, the members requested that news of the meeting not be publicized. They expressed to Obama their support for democracy and the war on terror."

Actually, it's not true that conservatives don't agree with Beck. Most conservatives are voicing the same concerns about the MB coming into power in Egypt, as well as many democrats. Don't dismiss Beck's "conspiracy theories" too quickly. He's extremely well-informed and has been right on more occasions than not. Beck is right; if the MB gets a foothold in Egypt there could be dire consequences in the Middle East and the whole world will be affected. This situation warrants close monitoring.

You're absolutely wrong! Beck has never been "well-informed" about anything. His stupidity is overwhelming. Anyone gullible enough to believe him is proving his/her own ignorance.

EGYPTIAN PEOPLE'S UNIFICATION OF THE ARAB STATES
The Egyptian People, by forcing the resignation of the hated Neo-Con/ Neo-Lib Puppet Mubarak, have ended the Neo-Con/Neo-Lib political control over their government; as did the Iranian People, when they forced the resignation of the hated Neo-Con Puppet Palavi. And, with the Turkish People under the strong leadership of Erdogan, having rejected the hated Neo-Con/Neo-Lib imposed policies toward the British apartheid state of Israel, there has been a cataclysmic shift of balance of power in the Middle East, which has ended the pernicious political control by these universally hated Neo-Cons/Neo-Libs over the Middle East.
In America, these hated Neo-Cons/Neo-Libs, insidious agents of the Israel Lobby cabal, are coming under increasing political attack by the Kennedy Liberals, the Reagan Conservatives, the Ron Paul Libertarians, and the Bachmann Tea Parties. Among the British and European peoples, these notorious Neo-Cons/Neo-Libs have always been regarded with disdain. The Arab Peoples, with support from the West, are now gaining the freedom to determine their own future.

What's the deal with the ugly, consistant anti-semitism coming from you & your end? Seriously - was that necessary? Just can't make a point without slandering and attacking Jews and Israel based on your false perceptions from your lifes training and rearing stewed in deception, propaganda, and just being a tool...another useful idiot.

When did Americans turn against democracy for other countries? I'm shocked by this reaction. Why can't Egyptians have their own democratic government? Do you think they're not worthy of one? I can't help thinking it's just that a lot of Americans, unfortunately, have been taught to hate Muslims/Arabs.

Most evryone in history who has stood on the wall and shouted the enemy is coming has been dismissed by many people as being crazy. Glenn doesn't know if he is right or not and neither do I but you also don't know that he is wrong. You simply choose not to believe what you don't want to believe or because you hate Glenn and he is the one saying it. What if he is right. What then. Throughout history there have always been people who saw things others did not. Don't discount it just because you haye Glenn Beck.

Beck's audience is over 65, with a high-school education or less. Most are steeped in Christian end-times hysteria. Their preachers have been telling them the world is ending soon for 1000 years. If they haven't noticed a discrepancy between sermon and reality in all those years, they're not going to get it now.
Just ignore them; they won't be around much longer. Maybe we could get them offstage sooner by reminding them that Medicare is socialized medicine. Refuse Medicare, Beck fogies! It's the principled thing! Stop taking your meds!
