(In the interest of full disclosure, I would like to make it known that Red Statements, which I own and edit has openly endorsed Lee Bright for the Senate. The first and only endorsement ever by Red Statements in a primary I have also endorsed him on other sites I write for.)
Nancy Mace, who is trying to make herself appear as a solid conservative, in her race to unseat Lindsay Graham, who is perceived by many voters in South Carolina as a liberal and who is vulnerable in 2014, has sold her interest in FITSNEWS, according to her financial disclosure report.
FITNEWS made news itself back in 2010, when the editor and writer claimed to have had an illicit affair with Nikki Haley. The affair was acknowledged by Folks when Haley was running for governor and it almost sank her candidacy. Haley denied the allegations and claimed that Folks was out to destroy her for political reasons. Folks has denied this, but trying to find a favorable Nikki Haley column in FITNews was harder than the time I tried to help OJ find the real killers.
Obviously, co-owning a rumor mill paper is a detriment to someone seeking high office. I would have sold too. However, at the time of the rumors, Mace did issue a statement in an attempt to exonerate the blog from blame and voters chose not to believe Folks and Nikki Haley was elected by a comfortable margin.
But there could be a second reason she chose to sell and this is the one I tend to believe. The blog has taken a very pro Mace stand and attacks Bright on a regular basis. Having your name on the ownership papers may not be the best move you could make as a candidate.
Let's move beyond that for a moment and look at something else her disclosure form shows. She has only received 5,000 of her selling price of 18,000, meaning she is still owed 13,000 by Folks. He OWES her. This is an obvious case of conflict of interest on his part and possibly on hers. That part is less clear.
In the latest paper, Folks uses a very deceptive headline, "Lee Bright Fails To Disclose Economic Interests." The article goes on to point out that 200 candidates were denied a place on the ballot for doing the exact same thing. That too is misleading. Although Bhttp://www.thestate.com/2013/10/10/3031942/us-senate-hopeful-had-31000-stake.htmlright did not file his disclosure, he did ask for and receive a thirty day extension, so that he could make sure all the data that is filed is correct and up to date, not an uncommon occurrence.
Folks' 200 candidates NEVER filed at all, so why the comparison? He had no evidence of wrongdoing on Bright's part, so he was forced to try to deceive his readers. This is what I mean by conflict of interest. This could also explain why he has to use sex to even get people to his site. While he and Nancy Mace has referred to FITNews as the preeminent South Carolina Political news site, the truth is according to Alexa, the acknowledged leader in this field the traffic flowing to FITSNews came from

Even Folks is honest about it and his motto is "Unfair and Imbalanced"
But it's his anger problem that gets him in the most trouble. He resigned from the governor's office, where he worked as a spokesman after he was charged with physically attacking his fiance in 2005. Reading his columns, you get a sense that those court ordered anger management classes were a waste of time.
I believe that Lee Bright is the best person for the job as US Senator from South Carolina, not because of what he says he will do but because of what he has already done. And don't look for spurious allegations in my columns against Ms Mace. I don't roll that way. As Michael Corleone would say, "Nothing personal, it's strictly business."
And on a final note, let me add, "I did not sleep with that woman...Nancy Mace" I don't need the publicity.
