Conservative Congressional candidate announces challenge to Speaker John Boehner

While many conservatives and activists in the TEA Party movement have come to regard the current Speaker, John Boehner, as moderating on issues and showing far too much willingness to compromise with liberal Democrats, many have called for a primary challenge to the speaker. Ohio school teacher and TEA Party activist Joseph D. “J.D” Winteregg has announced he will challenge John Boehner for Congress in the 8th district of Ohio. Winteregg, founder of the Ohio Accountability Project, said he will challenge the speaker because he longer represents the interests of the citizens of the district.

Winteregg announced his campaign with an Oct. 1 segment on the “Morning Blaze Show with Doc Thompson,” part of Glenn Beck’s The Blaze Radio Network.

Winteregg, who is a French teacher who has visited France, said, “After my time with that socialist government—you know, I lived and worked there—I made a vow that I would never let that happen in America.”

Winteregg sees the increasing distance between citizens and their representatives in Washington D.C. as part of the problem. All representatives must live among their constituents. The number of days they spend in Washington, D.C. will be capped,” he said. “With the technology that exists, and with the need to diminish the lobbyist influence, this mandate will ensure that the representatives do what they’re meant to do–represent the people.”

A strong Constitutional conservative, Winteregg said, “An activist federal government undermines this key founding principle, so I will work to restore our process of governance to what the founders originally intended with the Constitution as my guide.”

Winteregg says after being involved in the TEA Party movement across the district, that many citizens welcome a challenge to the speaker, and he believes the race can be won. He said, “I can honestly say that this race is absolutely winnable.”
