Connor Graffam and Nick Mazurek share male athlete of the week honors

Each week during the high school sports season the High School Sports Examiner and the Eastern Maine Sports Blog will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com.

When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination.

Male

This week Nick Mazurek from Oceanside high school and Connor Graffam from Camden Hills high school were co male athlete of the week winners.

Nick Mazurek- Oceanside - baseball- Had three hits, including two 3 run home runs and seven RBI in 13-8 win over Belfast. Pitched a one hitter and struck out 10 in 7-0 victory over Erskine. He also added two hits and two RBI. Had two hits and two RBI in 13-3 victory over Leavitt. Mazurek joins Rachel Frye (4-28-13) and Kennadi Grover (6-17-13) as Oceanside high school student/athletes that have captured athlete of the week honors.

Connor Graffam- Camden Hills- baseball- Threw a no hitter in 6-0 win over Maranacook. He walked two, struck out 11, and retired the final 19 batters of the game. Graffam went 3-7 at the plate during the week. Graffam joins Jordan Knowlton (2-17-13) as Camden Hills high school student/athletes that have earned athlete of the week honors.

Runner up

Austin Smith- Mattanawcook- baseball- Pitched a one hitter and struck out 14 in 1-0 victory over Stearns.

Other nominations

JT Tobin- Oceanside- baseball- Had four hits in 13-8 win over Belfast. Had a home run and five RBI in 13-3 victory over Leavitt.

Jake Gauvin- Bucksport- baseball- Pitched a complete game two hitter and struck out eight in 7-0 win over Central.

Joe Socobasin- Lee- baseball- Had two hits including a walk off single in a 3-2 victory over PCHS.

Devin Peters- Lee- baseball- Pitched a complete game three hitter in 3-2 victory over PCHS.

Nick Decker- Foxcroft- baseball- Pitched a four hit complete game in 8-1 victory over Old Town. Decker allowed only one unearned run, he walked four and struck out four.

Brooks Law- Foxcroft- baseball- Had three hits, two runs scored, and one RBI in 8-1 win over Old Town. Had a double and two RBI in 9-2 win over John Bapst.

Trevor Lyford- Penquis- baseball- Pitched a two hitter and struck out nine in 9-1 victory over Schenck.

Alan Wood- Waterville- baseball- Had two RBI in 2-1 victory over Nokomis.

Abe Simpson- Foxcroft- baseball- Allowed one earned run on three hits and one walk to get his first career victory in 9-2 win over John Bapst.
