A Connecticut university is still on lockdown while police investigate claims of a gunman with a knife. On Nov. 4, the New York Daily News reported that police have swarmed the CCSU campus in search of a man who was seen entering a dormitory on campus.
"Police tell NBC that a man possibly armed with a gun was reported entering a residential hall at CCSU. That sighting has yet to be confirmed. New Britain Mayor Tim O'Brien told reporters at 1:45 p.m. that no injuries are reported," the New York Daily News reports.
The Connecticut university lockdown had students and staff hunkered down for almost two hours. Many students didn't know what was going on but several messages were posted on the school's Twitter account saying "this is not a drill" and insisting that students and anyone on campus stay indoors.
"One student told NBC they saw a man walking toward the residential building, James Hall, carrying a gun, Japanese-style sword, kneepads, body armor, paintball goggles and multiple clips or magazines before noon (via New York Daily News).
Police have since started "ushering students out" of the school buildings. An unconfirmed source has told NBC that a suspect is in custody but the situation in New Britain, Conn. is still very fluid.
Connecticut university lockdown is still in effect. Around 1 p.m., school officials said that this was "not an active-shooter situation." Frightened students have been updating their social media pages documenting the events of the day. One student said that someone was walking through the hall of the dorm and knocking on students' doors.
