Connecticut Sun Dance Teams Auditions Set

On Tuesday, the Connecticut Sun announced that open tryouts for the Solar Power, Senior Sun and Sun Kids dance teams will be conducted on Sat., March 15. All three dance teams will perform at Connecticut Sun home games throughout the season as well as appear at team events in the community.

The Sun Kids Dance Team will hold auditions for boys and girls between the ages of 7-15 at the Mohegan Sun Convention Center. Registration begins at 8 a.m., with an information session at 8:30 a.m., and tryouts from 8:45-noon. There is a non-refundable $20 registration fee.

Dancers should wear hip-hop style attire, dance shoes, and performance-ready hair and makeup. Candidates must be age seven by March 15, and all dancers are required to supply a non-returnable 5 by 7 head-shot. Those who are chosen will be notified by phone on St. Patrick's Day (Mon., March 17).

Auditions for the 2014 Senior Sun Dance Team, comprised of men and women age 50 and older, will also be held at the Mohegan Sun Convention Center. Registration for the Senior Sun Dance Team begins at 12:30 p.m., and the audition will run from 1-3. Candidates will learn and perform a short hip-hop routine, dancing in groups before a judging panel. As with the Sun Kids Dance Team candidates, there is a non-refundable $20 registration fee.

Dancers should wear sweat or wind pants, a T-shirt and dance sneakers or tennis shoes with non-marking soles. All dancers must be able to commit to a full season of scheduled practices and home games. Those who are chosen will be notified by phone on March 17. The audition is open to the public, and dancers are encouraged to invite family and friends.

Preliminary auditions for the 2014 Solar Power Dance Team will round out the day, from 4-6:30 p.m. at the Mohegan Sun Convention Center (pre-registration at 3:30). These auditions are closed to the public.

A $20 non-refundable registration fee is required from all prospective dancers, who must also provide a non-returnable 5-by-7 headshot and current dance resume. They must be able to commit to all Sun home games and scheduled practices, as well as community appearances, a photo shoot and other scheduled events.

The final audition for the Solar Power Dance Team will be held on Sun., April 6, at the Mohegan Sun Cabaret Theatre.
