The University of Maine Black Bears basketball team went up against the defending National Champions on Thursday evening. The Black Bears played even with the University of Connecticut Huskies for the first 20 minutes.
The Huskies had a 36-31 lead at the half. After a halftime talk from Coach Jim Calhoun they put the game away with a 22-2 run to start the half. The Huskies held the Black Bears without a field goal for the first 10 minutes of the second half and went on to defeat Maine by a score of 80-60.
Andre Drummond finished with 11 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks for the Huskies. Jeremy Lamb led UConn in scoring with 16 points. Five Huskies finished with at least 11 points.
Justin Edwards led the Black Bears with 20 points. Maine (1-1) will next play on Sunday, November 27th when they host Holy Cross for a 2 PM start.
The Huskies currently are the number four ranked team in the country. They have won 14 straight and have the longest winning streak in Division 1. UConn (3-0) They will host Coppin State on Sunday, November 20th.
