ATF Boston Field Division Special Agent in Charge Daniel J. Kumor announced today that Brian Vanacore, 48, of North Branford, Greg Bodytko, 54, of Northford, and their business, BMG LLC, pleaded guilty today in Bridgeport federal court to violating federal firearms laws.

According to court statements and court documents, BMG LLC was owned by Vanacore and Bodytko, they operated a gun store at 2585 Berlin Turnpike in Newington, Connecticut. Three separate federal firearms licenses to deal firearms in Connecticut was issued to Vanacore and BMG, Bodytko was a 50 percent partner in the business.

ATF inspectors did a routine inspection of BMG Newington store in the summer of 2013 and during the inspection found several firearms, including machine guns and silencers, which BMG had purchased but failed to change the registration information in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record. ATF found 15 firearms that were still registered under the person who sold them to BMG, they also failed to conduct the necessary background checks on at least 10 separate occasions. As ATF inspectors went over the records of BMG they discovered that on numerous occasions, Vanacore and Bodytko failed to report the sale of multiple handguns to the same individual, and failed to record in their Acquisition and Disposition records the acquisition and/or disposition of hundreds of firearms. They also failed to fill out properly, or failed to fill out at all, ATF Form 4473, a form that must be completed by individuals who purchase firearms from federally-licensed firearms dealers.

After all defendants pleading guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge William I. Garfinkel, Vanacore and BMG was scheduled to be sentenced on May 28, 2014, and Bodytko on June 6, 2014 by U.S. District Judge Michael P. Shea in Hartford.
