Connecticut beats Cincinnati 51-45 with tough defense

The Connecticut Huskies used a stout defensive performance to knock off the first place Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday. The 51-45 win tightened the AAC race a little bit more.

During the sluggish defensive battle, Cincinnati had a tough time getting passed the 30 point mark before a late run posed a threat to Connecticut.

Shabazz Napier had another monster game with 18 points and 11 rebounds from the point guard position. He Paced UCONN all day long with inspired play.

Connecticut moved to (23-6, 11-5) in conference with two games remaining. Officially, they have a chance to share the conference title with multiple teams.

Both teams struggled to score for large portions of the game. In fact, notes that Connecticut didn’t hit a field goal for the final 7 ½ minutes. Still, Cincinnati wasn’t able to score enough.

Cincinnati fell to (24-5, 13-3) in the American Athletic. The Bearcats have to await the outcome of the Louisville vs. Memphis game to see if they are still in first place.
