The University of Connecticut Huskies announced, on Oct. 10, a pair of walk-ons have officially made the 2013-14 women's basketball team. The two walk-ons are freshman guard Tierney Lawlor and sophomore guard Briana Pulido. Lawlor will wear No. 20 while Pulido will wear No. 11.
Lawlor (Ansonia, Conn.) averaged 12.2 points and 8.75 rebounds per game in her final two seasons at Ansonia High School. She was selected to the Naugatuck Valley League’s All-Brass Division team and captained the squad in both her junior and senior years. Lawlor was also named to the Connecticut High School Coaches Association Academic All-State Team. Her father, John, played football for the Huskies.
Lawlor also played soccer and softball in high school.
Pulido (Miami, Fla.) is a member of the Huskies track and field team. She attended Guliver Prepatory received All-Dade Honorable Mention and most Points/Best Offensive Player of the Year in 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons.
With the recent additions, UConn has 11 players on their current roster. The Huskies have a perimeter oriented team with six guards, three forwards and only two centers.
All-American candidates Stefanie Dolson, Bria Hartley, Kaleena Mosqueds-Lewis and Breanna Stewart are expected to lead UConn to another Final Four Appearance. The Huskies are playing their first year in the American Athletic Conference.
