The Freethought Society is a national organization headquartered in the Greater Philadelphia area. They provide fellowship and services to the non-theist community throughout the US and Canada. The goal of the Freethought Society is to raise awareness and acceptance of the non-theist community, to actively work for the separation of religion and government, and to stop discrimination and promote equality for all.
This work includes holding regular meetings - usually monthly, which are free & open to the public. These events are both social and educational; FS produces a bi-monthly newsletter, "The Freethought Society News" available at no cost by email/pdf to members and all interested. Send an email to newsletter@FtSociety.org to add your name to the distribution list.
The Freethought Society has multiple ways to connect with other freethinkers. Their Meetup and the FS discussion forums are for supporters to discuss issues that interest them. This also includes event announcements which serve to keep members and friends updated and informed about FS events and news in addition to the ongoing discussions.
The conversation/discussion topics differ between the Yahoo and Facebook groups. Sign up for both and don’t miss a thing! The groups are moderated to keep spam and trolls away but are otherwise open to whatever topics interest the participants.
If you're local or visiting the area, sign up with the Meetup group, which has announcements from the Freethought Society as well as announcements from other Philadelphia regional (PA, DE, NJ) affiliated groups! Visit the FS website for announcements of upcoming and past events. Speakers range from scientists to ethicists, from leaders in the nontheist movement to events with secular musicians and others.
