A Shelton, Conn. woman was arrested after leaving her three-year-old son in a hot car while she went grocery shopping in Orange, Conn.’s Trader Joes. The Orange Police Department got a call at 11:15 on Thursday from a concerned citizen who saw the young boy alone in a car in the parking lot, according to the Channel 22 News Ct. on July 5.

Officers arrived to Trader Joe’s at 550 Boston Post Road in Orange to find the little boy in the car unattended. The mother of the child left him in the car so she could do some grocery shopping in Trader Joes. Police say that Stonier came out of the store when she saw the police.

36-year-old Nathalie Stonier admitted to leaving the boy to do shopping. Due to the immediate response of the concern citizen and the police department arriving immediately after they received the 911 call, the child was not injured from sitting too long in the heat, according to the Connecticut Post.

Stonier’s husband, Rick Stonier, said that his wife is an incredible mother who made a mistake. The mother was charged with risk of injury to a minor and leaving a child under 13 unsupervised in a motor vehicle. She is scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court next week. She was released on promised to appear.

The child was released to the custody of his father and the Department of Children and Families were notified about this case. The temperatures Thursday were unbearable, so that concerned citizen might have very well saved that child from serious injury as that car got hotter by the minute.

Not only did she risk her son's life leaving him on such a hot day in a car, but she also risked losing him to someone who could have come along and taken the boy. There was so much danger that child was facing in that car alone.

This story comes on the heels of the child who died in the car in Georgia after his father left him there while he was at work all day. This became a national news story as the investigation started to show an alleged plot by the father to kill the child in this manner.

The father is in jail and charged with deliberately leaving the child in the hot car to kill him along with other charges. He could face the death penalty if all charges stick. The mother is also under investigation.

Both parents had searched information for children dying in hot cars before the father left the three-year-old boy in the car. The investigation has turned up what seems to be incriminating evidence on both parents, but so far only the father has been charged.
