A Connecticut grandmother killed her two grandchildren and then killed herself, according to state police who are calling this a double murder-suicide, according to CBS News Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013. The three bodies were found in a parked car in Preston, Conn., not far from their home in Stonington, on Tuesday night.
State Police Lt. J. Paul Vance said that Debra Denison of Stonington, picked up her grandchildren from daycare on Tuesday and later that evening an Amber Alert was issued when Dennison, 2-year-old Alton Perry and his 6-month-old brother never returned home. The police also report that Dennison was armed when she left her Stonington home Tuesday to retrieve the kids from their daycare.
Dennison has a history of mental illness, but she did have permission to pick up the children at daycare. Police confirm a gun and a suicide note were found at the scene. The chief medical examiners office will perform autopsies on all three of the deceased.
The Ledyard, Conn. Patch is reporting in an update today that Dennison drove to Foxwoods’ Lake of Isles golf course then shot and killed her two grandchildren before turning the .38-caliber handgun on herself. When the children and the grandmother did not return home, police received a call from the boy’s mother, this is when the Amber Alert was released. The children’s parents are Brenda and Jeremy Perry of North Stonington. Tuesday was Alton’s second birthday.
