United States Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D. and Riverside County Supervisor John Benoit joined the Martha’s Village & Kitchen’s executive staff and board members on Monday, March 10, 2014 to welcome Clinicas de Salud del Pueblo, Inc. to Indio.
Clinicas, a Federally Qualified Healthcare Center (FQHC) based in Brawley, CA takes over operation of the healthcare center at Martha’s and expands services available to the homeless and underserved in the area.
“That we would see this kind of synergy between these two great community organizations,” enthused Supervisor Benoit, “the marriage between Clinicas and Martha’s came to me as wonderful news.”
“All of us in this room are partners in health,” noted Congressman Ruiz, a former emergency room physician. “When you treat the most difficult populations, the most vulnerable populations, when you can’t follow up because they have no address, the partnership in health between Martha’s Village & Kitchen and Clinicas provides them that home.”
Staffed with two full--‐time medical providers, a part--‐time dentist, a psychologist, and experienced medical case managers and health educators, Clinicas Health Center will provide access to a full array of primary and preventive services for all ages starting March 2014.
“It makes me the happiest man,” Congressman Ruiz added, “to see that we can continue to build upon the successes and continue to relieve the healthcare disparities in our community.”
