John Lewis, a congressman from Georgia and one of the last surviving Big Six leaders of the American Civil Rights Movement, will be in New York City January 25th signing copies of his new graphic novel March: Book 1 at The Strand Bookstore, which he wrote in collaboration with Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell.

March is a vivid first-hand account of John Lewis' lifelong efforts to secure civil rights for all, meditating on the distance we've traveled since the days of segregation and the Jim Crow South. Based on Lewis' personal story, March also reflects on the highs and lows of the broader mission of the civil rights movement.

Lewis is the only living "Big Six" leader of the American Civil Rights Movement, having been the chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), playing a key role in the struggle to end legalized racial discrimination and segregation. A member of the Democratic Party, Lewis is a member of the Democratic leadership of the House of Representatives and has served in the Whip organization since shortly after his first election to the U.S. Congress.
