Congressman Bera tours his District after being sworn in to the 113th Congress (Photos)

Congressman Ami Bera wants to dispel any misgivings in his supporters and constituents that after winning the very closely contested election, he became inaccessible to the public. His program ‘Congress on your Corner’ is attracting attention of voters across the party lines. Many organizations lobbying for a drastic change in American policy towards Israel have circulated the news of the event so that they could express their concern to the newly elected Congressman. Congressman Bera has been nominated to the Committee on Foreign Relations.

“I am honored to have been named to the House Foreign Affairs Committee,” he said. “In an increasingly complex global landscape, relationships with other nations have tangible effects here at home and we need strategic thinking to guide our foreign policy in the 21st century. Additionally, the Sacramento region is uniquely situated to benefit from opening up new markets for our goods and services around the world. That would help create jobs here at home. Through my new role on the Science, Space and Technology, I’ll also work to foster innovative industries that can bring good jobs to the 7th district.”

Congressman Dalip Singh Saund had created history by becoming the first Asian, the first Indian, and the first Sikh representative in 1957. He was also the first Democrat to have been elected from the 29th Congressional district consisting of Riverside and Imperial Valley. The Second to get this honor was Congressman Bobby Jindal whose parents came from Punjab, India, and who later resigned to become the Governor of Louisiana. Congressman Ami Bera, is the third representative with his ancestral roots in India.

“I want to make it as easy as possible for people to share their opinions and ideas, and talk about their needs with me and my staff," said Bera. "My most important duty is to listen to my constituents and make sure that I’m easily accessible to the people I represent.”
