In lieu of the acts of violence within the past year such as the movie theater shooting in Aurora, and the Sandy Hook school shooting, politicians have been desperately trying to find a way to stop the stream of violence in America. Anytime violence becomes an issue it seems like the first place to get blamed is the world of media, and this situation is no different. President Obama has released a plethora of possible actions including 23 executive orders and a series of suggestions to Congress. Inside of these suggestions is the request to use $10 million to study the effects of media such as violent movies, and video games.
Should the government focus on regulating video games or should that be left to the individual and the parents? Millions of people around the world play video games, and do not become sociopaths, and/or deranged killers. Are video games and movies really the problem, or is it within the personal psyche of the individual? Without a doubt the finger of judgment will point at video games, but we can only hope that they are left alone, and seen as the art form in which they truly are.
