Congress ... "break the habit of negotiating through crisis"

President Obama held a press conference today to address the current issues concerning the debt ceiling, gun control and diversity among his cabinet choices. Consequently he was subjected to the usual barrage of accusatory statements..."you said you wouldn't but you did"...negotiate. Why has the word negotiate become such a negative concept ?

The fact is any organization or business that refuses to compromise on major issues is unlikely to accomplish their goals or purpose. The GOP has set a pattern of "our way" or "no way". The problem with the congress is that they "developed the habit of negotiating through crisis"... as President Obama stated today. Speaker Boehner and Mitch McConnell have become reactive instead of proactive.

The GOP tactic of using gov't supported programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security become viable targets for debt reduction each time we approach the voting deadline to raise the debt ceiling. Apparently the debt ceiling is of little concern when it involves military excursions worldwide or paying farmers subsidies "not" to grow crops.

Ironically, the "mainstay press core" who seems to be quite concerned regarding the diversity of the president's cabinet choices seemed to lack diversity among themselves. The representation of African-American men in the mainstream media is definitely lacking. There is still an "intolerance" among the GOP and the media towards minorities.

Gen. Colin Powell slammed the Republican Party Sunday for what he calls a “dark vein of intolerance” running through it, saying members of the GOP “still look down on minorities” and that the party needs to change, or it’s “going to be in trouble.”

The gun control issue has been regulated for so long by the NRA (National Rifle Assoc.) that it assimilates to a form of brain-washing. Anytime civilians feel the need to accumulate assault weapons that disperse 30 bullets in a matter of seconds there is something seriously wrong with that mentality.

After the murders of 20 innocent elementary school children and 6 adult victims the NRA still refuses to see the need for gun restrictions. This speaks volumes to the fact that we are willing to become a nation of armed vigilantes who will kill on sight and ask questions later...unfortunately for many victims it will be a tragedy that cannot be undone.
