Congress back in session with increased taxes on their mind. 1% tax on every bank transaction?

Below is a correspondence from Michael Connelly who is a expert in Constitutional law and who spends many hours a day reading through proposed legislation that would otherwise just slip on by without any notice to citizens until the taxes come due.

If any of these are passed, people in Atlanta and across the nation will be burdened with additional heavy taxation.

Michael teaches law courses via the Internet through various colleges and universities worldwide including a course on "Constitutional Law: The Bill of Rights. Find web and links below. He also has a weekly radio show called "Our Constitution." Also find link below.

His newsletter begins:

"As Congress goes back into session prior to the November election, I have found a number of very dangerous pieces of legislation that the liberals will try to ram through. These bills will increase spending, increase taxes, and further limit our freedom under the Constitution. I have listed them in my latest Legislative Alert on my blog at www.michaelconnelly.viviti.com ."

Be sure to read the third point where they propose that we pay a 1% tax on every bank or credit union transaction we enact. If you make a deposit or withdrawal, move money from one account to another, or even take cash from an ATM you will have to pay 1% of each amount to the Federal government. Think about how many such transactions you make a month and you can see how quickly this amount can add up.

LEGISLATIVE ALERT!

"No man's life, liberty, or property is safe, while the legislature is in session." This is a quote that has been attributed to everyone from Daniel Webster to Mark Twain, but regardless of who first said it, the words have never been more applicable than they are today. The 111th Congress is about to return from recess, and the year of "tax and spend" will get underway once again.

It is amazing that the lemmings in Congress seem to be preparing to run off the cliff and drown in the sea by sacrificing their seats in the upcoming election in order to continue to pass the Socialist agenda of President Obama. Americans need to be aware of what will be attempted in the next few months prior to the election and even after that in a lame duck session of Congress.

Much of this is being kept under the radar by the Obama administration in the hope that American citizens will not know until the deed is done that they are being savaged even more by their government. So here is what the Congress will have before it in the next few weeks.

1. A new stimulus package to add another $50 billion dollars to the deficit that is already the largest in history. This money is supposed to be used for building and repairing infrastructure such as highways, railroads, etc. It is also supposed to stimulate the economy and create jobs. However, since under the first massive stimulus package unemployment has actually gotten higher, and the economic recovery has ground to a halt, there is no reason that this bill would do anything but increase the deficit.

In reality, it is not really meant to help the economy. Instead, most of the jobs that would be created would go to members of unions that support the liberals in Congress. This is an unconstitutional use of taxpayer funds to bribe the unions into staying with Obama and the liberals in the upcoming election.

2. The Bush tax cuts are set to expire at the end of the year and that is exactly what Obama wants. If the tax cuts are not renewed it will result in the most massive tax increase in American history. It is rumored that Obama is considering extending the cuts for those making under $250,000 per year so that supposedly it is only the "rich" that will be taxed. The truth is that the vast majority of people in this country that make over that amount are small business owners that create most of the jobs.

There is already enough uncertainly among small business owners. Large tax increases on them will cause them to stop creating new jobs, and in some cases even go out of business. Unemployment will get even higher.

3. Another new tax idea being floated by the Obama White House is the so-called "transaction tax." This tax will initially be a 1% tax on any transactions you make at any financial institutions such as banks and credit unions. If you make a deposit or withdrawal, move money from one account to another, or even take cash from an ATM you will have to pay 1% of each amount to the Federal government. Think about how many such transactions you make a month and you can see how quickly this amount can add up.

4. Probably the most dangerous action being considered is a canceling of the tax credit given to American businesses for taxes they pay to foreign governments. Since the United States already has the second highest corporate tax rate in the world, this tax credit is one of the few things that keeps our businesses competitive with businesses in the rest of the world. Now Obama wants to end that. The repeal of this tax credit will be an enormous blow to American businesses while greatly benefiting some of our enemies like Hugo Chavez in Venezuela. This is because the oil companies will be among those feeling the greatest impact. Therefore foreign oil companies will have a competitive edge.

Energy prices in this country will increase across the board with American families probably paying an average of $1500 more per year for things like gasoline and home heating oil. At the same time our dependence on foreign oil will increase even more.

5. Finally, there is going to be another major push in the Senate to pass the Disclose Act
in order to limit the rights of businesses and independent conservative organizations to participate and influence the upcoming elections.

Every freedom loving American needs to immediately contact their Senators and Representatives and demand that there be no more laws passed in this session of Congress increasing spending or creating new taxes, that Congress extend the Bush tax cuts for everyone, and that the Senate defeat the "Disclose Act." In other words, we need to tell these people to leave "our life, liberty, and property" alone.

Get it right. The 1% tax idea has been floated around since 2004, and it's not by Obama. The offset to the tax proposal is to abolish the IRS. Quit whining. http://www.factcheck.org/2010/09/1-transaction-tax/

I'll quit whinning when they stop taking all my money.

I will take Mike's word for it. He is an expert. With all the name changing in Washington who knows which tax belongs to whom. And besides if it is a tax, Obama and his crew will figure out to how put it on the people. If it has been around that long (and not implemented) why has it surfaced once again - perhaps because the Dems think they can get it through the back door and put it on the people? What ? Couldn't find anything wrong with the other five? Quit complaining. If it is something bad, he will give it to Bush; and if he thinks it will get him some points, he will take the credit until it turns sour and then he will blame it on Bush.

Unfortunately, congress which we know is run by the democrats at this time, will break the back of the American people if allowed to do as they wish. Voting is important yes. However, the people who run for office are important too. Give us... good choices to vote for. Stop mudslinging and pointing fingers. I say this to everyone since it is a common act of people. Stand up for what is right and shun what is evil as the Lord admonishes us to do in His Word. God told us to give unto Caeser what is Ceaser's and unto God what is God's. Remember Satan wishes to have all of us in hell with him. Don't let him win. He has lost the fight already. Take back our country before we don't have a country anymore.

As long as people in congress are allowed to add things to laws, making them more complex than they need to be, we will never truly be safe from lies and corruption. Stupid things are added to laws either to sneak them by without debate or to keep a law from passing (these days its mostly the former).
You cannot rationalize this, friends. If there's one bad part, then it is BAD. Take out the compromise. We cannot continue to compromise with despots. This goes for ALL BILLS.

What do I think? I think that those who are in office simply do not care about those who are not. Obama lied in his last speech. He said that this Country rewards responsible citizens. This Country does not reward you -- simply put, this Country taxes you to death.

Abolish the IRS and go to a consumption tax, but you can believe any politician.

The article was full of BS... but it's the Republicans who are the big spenders, not the Democrats. Look at this chart based on US Treasury data. No wonder everyone in our nation hates Republicans.

This article was basically written by a gentleman who teaches Constitutional Law. And I don't need a chart to tell me how much taxes are being taken out of my retirement income that I paid taxes on it when I earned it. We pay taxes on what we earn, what we spend, what we sell; and on every commodity that can be taxed.

Now they are charging anywhere from 2.5% to 3% if you pay for a purchase with your credit card and then they charge outrageous interest which you cannot even take off your income tax. I pray for the day when those who stand by a governmental party will open their eyes to the truth and do the right thing and stop clinging to some type of loyalty that is harming our country just for the sake of the party.

There was a time when I voted for the individual. I would vote for a Democrat that had good credentials and who was thought to be honest and willing to be a servant of the people; or a Republican whoever demonstrated to me the same. But in recent years, the whole body of either party takes the same stand on an issue and that makes for division right down the middle. It is only who can get the most people on their side and for whatever reason or in response to whatever promises.

We used to have statesmen in Congress who worked for the "states" people and not a party. They are supposed to represent the people and not a party. It is WE the people - not We the party. I have been voting for over 50 years and I have never seen our country so destroyed from the inside as it is today. Don't people understand that while we are fighting among ourselves the enemy of us all is getting a strong foothold. I pray that the American people will open their eyes before it is too late.

Well, well. I got my tax statement for my homes yesterday. And it said I could pay it online; but....it would cost 2.5% additional of the total bill to pay it online. And last week went to pay for some new tiles for my foyer; and the lady told me they charged and additional 3% of the total amount if I used a credit card. I told her I would write her a check and she said, "Oh, we don't take checks!" And then if I had to go to the bank to make a withdrawal for cash, I would have had paid for getting a check cashed or using the ATM Machine???? I gave my granddaughter a check for her birthday and she took it to my bank to cash it and they told her they would charge her $5.00 of it just to cash the check. Whew? And people are okay with this "change?" Well believe me by the end of the month, I won't have any change. I paid taxes when I earned the money for my retirement; and now I have to pay taxes when they send it back to me in little dribbles. My congressman told me that if the cap and trade are made law, it will cost the average, medium income household about $1,768 per year extra on their utility bills; and if you don't pay your utility bills they will turn them off. Will 2012 ever get here? And if so will we all being wearing barrels like Snuffy Smith did in the cartoon when his wife washed his one suit of clothes?

TEA PARTY EXPRESS!! ride it into getting this resolved

its about time the american people give a third party or individual a chance, instead of going to either extreme side and watching things go under further.

I am on a fixed income and I cannot afford to pay a 1% tax on all bank transactions I make. Or any other increase in tax that will affect me. I voted for Obama and I do support Obama but I do not want these laws to be passed. Obama promised no new taxed to citizens that make under 250,000 dollars. Now to me 250,000 dollars I could live the rest of my life comfortably

  • Patricia Walston 9 months ago

I also live on a fixed income so I understand. I think I will put my 25 cents in a sock and bury it in the backyard. It seems we are in jeopardy no matter which way we turn. I believe the only hope of America is God and not someone elected to public office.
