The Duggar family is known for their belief that children are a gift from the Lord and they are taking as many gifts as the Lord hands them (see video below). They had their 19th baby on December 10, 2009 and I think congratulations are in order. They need to be congratulated on baby girl, Josie Brooklyn. She was born three months early, weighing only 1 lb. and 6oz. Last I heard she's still in the intensive care unit at Arkansas Children's Hospital. She's gaining weight, but still needs our prayers.
I want to congratulate the Duggar's on something else as well as their new arrival. I want to congratulate them for patiently answering questions from the media and from the public. I love the Lord Jesus with all my heart and have strived to live for him daily for many years now, but I must confess it would be hard to patiently respond to some of the ridiculous comments and questions the Duggar's get. For example, when they were asked how they felt about being a financial burden on our society and the government even though they are completely debt free, the Duggar's patiently explained their real estate business, frugal living, and such. It would take all I have not to ask, "How do you feel about being a burden on our society by being a complete idiot?" I bet they have complete strangers walking up to them and saying, "I think you have too many kids." I can't imagine the Duggar's being unkind, but if you did that to me with my four kids, I'd be tempted to say, "Are you always this stupid or are you just making a special effort today?"
O.K., so I'm being a little silly. I would hope that I would be as kind as the Duggar's have been and never dishonor the Lord in my responses. I want to stand behind the Duggar's as People Magazine's cover says they are "under fire". I pray they will continue to honor the Lord, that Josie's health improves quickly, and that our society would repent of it's idea that children are a burden and embrace the fact that children truly are a gift from God.
