Christ the Redeemer will celebrate Confirmation with this year's Confirmation 2014 Group on Saturday, October 18th at 10:00 am. Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, Archbishop for the Military Services, USA will be the confirming prelate. The celebration is bi-lingual.

Candidates have a minimum of two consecutive years of Religious Education prior to celebrating Confirmation. They must complete at least up to the Grade 8 curriculum, although about one-third of the Candidates are in Grade 9 or higher. In addition to weekly Religious Education, parents attend a series of Confirmation Meetings held in English and in Spanish during the second year of Religious Education. A series of assignments are given to the Candidates to complete during that year including a Confirmation Mission Project of at least 15 hours of volunteer service. Candidates usually work on this Mission Project as their final assignment over the Summer.

In the Fall, prior to the Confirmation Celebration, the group also participates in a day-long retreat held off-site at the Benedictine Pastoral Center in Bristow, VA. This retreat is the original model upon which the diocesan Confirmation Retreat requirement is based.

There are approximately 95 Confirmation Candidates in this year's group. About half the families in this group are Spanish or bi-lingual speakers. About one-third of the Confirmation 2014 group were baptized at Christ the Redeemer, making this upcoming celebration at their parish even more meaningful. About 15 Candidates will also be celebrating their First Communion at this Confirmation Celebration, though all Candidates will be receiving Communion for the first time as fully initiated Catholics confirmed in the faith of their Baptism.
