“Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy” (Proverbs 28:13).

Do you commit sinful acts but keep those behaviors a secret? Well, you are not the only one. All of us have behaved inappropriately and have failed to implement Proverbs 28:13.

Reverent Clinton Chisholm recently delivered a sermon on The Dynamics of Confessions, and he had the entire church laughing. His message was accurate, but his Jamaican dialect and humorous examples had the church cackling. The Caribbean saints definitely understood his witty statements the most.

Who would have known that a message about sin could be so hilarious? Yes, Reverent Chisholm pierced our hearts with the truth of God’s Word even as we were laughing at his examples.

Nuggets from The Dynamics of Confessions:

  • Acknowledge actual sin as sin (be specific when you confess)
  • Keep your mouth shut when someone confesses his or her sin to you
  • Do not call sin another name (mistake, human weakness, etc.)
  • Do not generalize or rationalize your sins
  • Be remorseful
  • Confess and then forsake your sins
  • Confess to someone you trust or simply confess to God
  • Do not compromise the Word when others confess but do not condemn them either
  • Offer compassion instead of compromising and condemning
  • Acknowledge personal proneness/leaning to certain sins
  • Ask for God's grace in the areas you tend to fall short
  • keep watch over your desires because opportunity will present itself for you to sin

Prayer- Dear Heavenly Father, I confess to you my sins:__________(name the sins). Your Word says that if we confess our sins, you are faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). Therefore, I confess all my sins to you, and I accept your purification. I pray this prayer in the name of Jesus. Amen.
