Henderson, Nevada - Bill Ayers is scheduled to deliver the keynote address to the annual meeting of the Association of Teacher Educators in Atlanta, Georgia in February 2013. Pray For US, an online Christian outreach ministry, is opposing the speech and is asking concerned members of the public to speak out. Ayers is the former domestic terrorist whose Weather Underground group declared war against the U.S. government in 1970.
Ayers admitted in his memoirs that he participated in bombing attacks against the New York City police headquarters in 1970, the U.S. Capitol Building in 1971 and the Pentagon in 1972. The Weather Underground took credit for a total of 12 bombings in the 1970s. Ayers remained a fugitive until 1981, but was never indicted for his crimes due to a legal technicality.
Resurfacing in the 1990s, Ayers served as a Professor of Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is still revered among revolutionary circles for his attacks against America and capitalism, and Ayers' textbooks, which advance a communist worldview through the education system, are used in more than 1,500 schools in the U.S.
Pray For US is mounting an effort to stop Bill Ayers from addressing the Association of Teacher Educators. Based on Ayers' lifelong efforts to undermine and destroy the constitutional heritage of America, Pray For US believes that Ayers is morally unfit to be setting the education agenda for future teachers in this nation.
Mr. Ayers has not given up his dreams of a communist revolution to overthrow the U.S. government. In an April, 2012 interview with Truth-Out, Ayers said that he believes revolution is inevitable, even going so far as to say that he can envision a future in which Americans live as slaves in work camps.
Pray For US has initiated a campaign in which concerned citizens opposed to Ayers' speech can contact the President of the Association of Teacher Educators at no cost, and demand that Ayers' speaking invitation be revoked.
Pray For US is an online Christian outreach ministry that actively pursues political and legislative agendas in relation to America's constitutional and Christian heritage.
