Concordia: the Titanic connections

From the moment the world started hearing about the wreck of the 'Costa Concordia' Friday night, you heard reference after reference to 'Titanic', the ocean liner that sank 100 years ago this year.

What wasn't known at the time, is that there are connections between the two ships.

The Spanish newspaper El Mundo is reporting that while the Concordia was docked in Barcelona on December 21, 2011, a photo crew reshot classic scenes on board from the movie 'Titanic'.  Crews spent 7 hours on board the Concordia that day.

Twenty five days after the commemorative photos were shot, Concordia struck a rock and capsized.

Costa Cruises PR agency 'Edelman' coordinated the photo shoot.

Three scenes from Titanic were recreated, including the shot in which the young Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) lifts the arms of Rose DeWitt Bulcater (Kate Winslet) on the railing of Titanic while proclaiming, "I'm the king of the world!!".

Looking closely at the photo attached, you can clearly see the name of the damaged ship behind the models.

Second, it is reported that two descendants of a waiter who perished on the Titanic were on board Cardonia.  ANSA (the Italian news agency) says 30 year old  Valentina Capuano and her brother were on the cruise.  They are the great-grandchildren of a waiter who worked on the Titanic and died the night of April 14, 1912.

Valentina and her brother both recall hearing stories from their grandmother about family life at the time of the Titanic sinking.

Finally, Swiss diners in one of Concordia's restaurants reported that they were listening to Céline Dion's hit single My Heart Will Go – the theme tune to James Cameron's epic film 'Titanic' – when Concordia struck the rocks on Friday night.
