Concerts closer than you think

Finding a good concert to go to, to me comprises many things; location, performers, time of year and of course prices.  The Bay Area has an extraordinary amount of incredible venues to try from ranging from Oakland to Concord to Berkeley, San Francisco, Santa Cruz and San Jose.

Now if you're strictly into the current big names then you’ll be sticking to the major venues and higher end ticket prices..but if you like your concerts eclectic and varied there are some lesser known pockets to be found in not so well known places.  The Heritage Theatre in Campbell is just such a place.

I have been an avid concert goer since the early 80’s and everything about them is like a mini-vacation to me.  I like any song that’s plays to my mind and they are to be found everywhere and so my experiences have been as varied.

I thoroughly enjoy the old stadium events where you could be on the floor without fear of the coalescing mosh pit forming.  I have been in intimate clubs in those rare instances you happen to find out a favorite of yours is performing.  And I have completely enjoyed the heaven in the middle that is as intimate as it is energy-filled sociable at the same time.  A place where you feel the closeness and energy of the band in a personal way and still have the ability to share that feeling with others of your kind.

The Heritage Theatre in Campbell (located at the intersection of Campbell Ave. and Winchester Blvd.) gives the atmosphere of intimacy while allowing an audience of 500 to experience the show equally..and the range of musical acts is widely spectrumed to include just about anyone at any given time.  The 2012 spring season is no different.  This years lineup includes “Los Lonely Boys” whose 2003 debut album sparked the hits, “Heaven” and “More than Love”.   Also performing in this years lineup are “The Temptations”  whose classic hits include “My Girl” and “The Way You Do the Things You Do”;  Richard Marks, whose consistent #1 pop hits such as “Hold on to the Night” and “Right Here Waiting” are still staples of the airwaves.  The season finishes off with Dave Koz, well-known contemporary jazz saxophonist whose grammy nominated albums have produced a multitude of gems.

The Heritage Theatre is both intimate and comfortable with luxury style theatre seating, easy access to seats (sorry no mosh pits) and refreshments served in the lobby (alcohol served at some events).  This is an ideal location for those who want to make a full evening of it.  There is plenty of parking on the community center grounds and you are a very short walk to all the restaurants and bars in downtown Campbell for an enjoyable dinner and a drink before hand. For those who plan on imbibing a few beverages and don’t have a designated driver, I suggest using the Light Rail which has a stop conveniently located by the Water Tower Plaza, also just a short minutes walk to the downtown Campbell strip.

Scheduled dates for the above performances are as follows;  Los Lonely Boys –Friday, Feb 24th at 8pm;   The Temptations – Saturday, March 3rd at 8pm;  Richard Marx – Saturday, March 24th at 8pm and Dave Koz – Saturday, May 19th at 8pm.  Individual ticket prices range from $36 to $61 depending on where you sit and season tickets are available.  The seating is on two levels with very nice balcony seating available.   Tickets are available now.   Contact the box office at 408 866-2700 or download an order form at http://www.ci.campbell.ca.us/heritage.  Enjoy a fine, unique night the way only Campbell can do it.
