Last week on Tuesday, March 5, Dropkick Murphys brought an early St. Patrick's Day celebration to The Fillmore in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The American Celtic punk band formed in 1996 in Quincy, Massachusetts. Dropkick Murphys are a uniquely recognizable band for many in that their music incorporates bagpipes. The vast member line up consists of Ken Casey (bass, vocals), Matt Kelly (drums), Al Barr (vocals), James Lynch (guitar), Tim Brennan (guitar, mandolin, accordion), Josh "Scruffy" Wallace (bagpipes) and Jeff DaRosa (acoustic guitar, banjo). Dropkick Murphys released their debut album Do or Die in 1998 and have since gone on to produce eight more studio albums. Their latest album Signed and Sealed in Blood was released in on January 8, this year. The band's set list had many of their most well known songs: "Good Rats," "Fields of Athenry" and "Walk Away." They also played "Shipping Up to Boston" - a well known song due to it's prominent inclusion on the soundtrack for the movie The Departed. After playing their main set, Dropkick Murphys performed an encore featuring "Kiss Me I'm Sh** Faced" and invited a number of female fans up on stage.
Bands Jim Lockey & The Solemn Sun and Old Man Markley were also on the evening's bill, opening up for Dropkick Murphys. If you missed them in Charlotte, they will be touring until April 20. Make sure to check out all tour dates here and catch them in a city near you!
