Motor Authority news reported earlier yesterday (Aug. 22,2013) that two photos displayed at a recent Nissan 360 press event hit at a sportier more aggressive Nissan Maxima, with styling cues from its halo car, the Nissan GT-R. Motor Authority noted that many of the angles and overall proportions from the concept car photos align with that of the Nissan GT-R.
Nissan has always dubbed there Maxima their, “Four door sports car” and given it a sportier appearance and performance feel than its lesser priced sibling, the Altima. The Maxima seriously started picking up some steam as a sportier alternative to most four door family sedans with its redeign in 1995 when Nissan injected its VQ30DE capable of 190HP and 205 lbs-ft of torque (a Ward’s 10 best Engines winner that year). The latest generation Maxima carries the same engine lineage with Nissan’s VQ35DE pushing out close to 100 more horses at 290 HP and 274 lbs-ft of torque.
Back to the concept photos, the more aggressive styling and GT-R-inspired shape could hint that Nissan is going to get more serious about the Maxima's sporty ways. The new concept is headed to the 2014 Detroit Auto Show and should be on sale by 2015. Until then, there is plenty of time to conjecture what in fact Nissan will do.
