Conan O’Brien vs NBC battle may hurt Jay Leno and the Tonight Show. Conan O’Brien’s hosted the last Tonight Show Friday night; Jay Leno is set to take over on March 1, 2010 and his reputation may suffer a bit because of the battle. The battle between NBC and Conan played out nightly during the last few weeks on the Tonight Show and the Jay Leno Show.
It is clear that Jay Leno, although stuck in the middle of the NBC battle isn’t responsible for what has taken place. But Leno’s reputation will be hurt, most likely not permanently, but he may lose some fans that won’t watch the Tonight Show. There are also some celebrities that most likely won’t appear on the Tonight Show for some time. Jay Leno will have some work to do once he is back hosting the Tonight Show. Most likely, after some time passes people will forget, but the ratings are what matters most and many people are questioning if he can keep those up.
Some critics have said that even though Leno wasn’t responsible for what happened to Conan, he was waiting in the wings to fill Conan’s shoes. And he did very little to stand up for himself or Conan.
Howard Kutz from CNN speaks to several media critics about the NBC battle and what Jay’s role has been. See the video below for the discussion about Jay Leno and his reputation.
Jay Leno has one of the greatest car collections and a 17,000 square foot garage for those cars. Earlier last spring, Leno was able to drive the most famous Utah car, the Mormon Meteor III owned by David Abbott “Ab” Jenkins from Salt Lake City. In September, Leno made an offer to Jenkins to purchase the car. But Jenkins said that he would like to keep the car in Utah and turned Leno down.
