There are some things that even we remain surprised by in the world of late-night TV, and having Conan O'Brien disrobe and get into a bathtub with Ricky Gervais has to rank somewhere on the list.
So why in the world did this happen to begin with? In an episode of "Conan" this week, the host was talking with Ricky about what is one of his new fascinations, as he has come to rather enjoy tweeting strange pictures of himself while in the bathtub. Then, the star of "Derek" and "The Office" announced that he had a surprise for Conan, as the talk-show host's team brought out a bathtub to the stage for him to jump into with his underwear on for the two to snap a picture for his Twitter account.
One of the real reasons that this video (and the stunt as a whole) was successful is largely because it feels almost as though Conan never sees any of this coming. At first, he refused to disrobe with Gervais to get into the tub, though he eventually did do so once he had the proper convincing for it. He also joked that there were going to be some people who ended up losing their jobs outright over ever doing this stunt in the first place.
Sunday marks the first time in four years that Gervais will not be presiding over the Golden Globes, and awards show where he made a name for himself by famously mocking the celebrities in attendance. He drew great controversy and acclaim for the gig, but has since moved on to other projects.
