Conan O'Brien pilot (ironically) picked up by NBC

In what may be the most ironic news of the day, Conan O'Brien will serve as an executive producer for "Justice," a pilot that was just picked up by NBC. Details are still sparse on the series, which is being described as a "comedy / drama" about a Supreme Court justice who starts up their own practice.

For Conan, this is certainly a surprising move since NBC showed him the door on "The Tonight Show" last week. However, Hollywood is a business, and if NBC liked "Justice" then it likely doesn't matter to them whose production company is behind the work.

If there's any negative news to the story, it's that "Justice" being picked up further hurts the chances of "Rex is Not Your Lawyer," another legal dramedy starring David Tennant of "Doctor Who" fame. That show has been put on ice...at least for the time being.

Are you surprised that NBC is willing to work with Conan O'Brien in some capacity? Let me know your thoughts with a comment below.

I'm more surprised at Conan working with NBC. I have always thought that there is more to this story than we know.
