Conan O'Brien on '60 Minutes' -- calm, cool, and with no regrets

Conan O'Brien's full interview on "60 Minutes" Sunday night was surprising in many ways -- not only was he funnier than many would expect in a serious sit-down, but he also avoided the obvious pitfall of coming across like a victim for having "The Tonight Show" stripped away from him in favor of Jay Leno (as Jay did during his interview with Oprah Winfrey earlier this year).

Instead, Conan was full of excitement when talking about his new TBS gig in the fall, and even was kind enough to wish both Jay and NBC executive Jeff Zucker "well" (even if neither one of them bothered to communicate with him at all since he inked his new contract).

In the end, Conan said he had "no regrets" about his experiences -- he acknowledged that there were some things his contract still prevented him from talking about, but he did his best to spin the questions in a way that would make it interesting to listen to.

I think Conan had bigger plans. Plans that he has been working on for decades. And he now realizes that those plans are gone. So there was some bitterness there... in the interview.

Now, in regards to Leno being #1... let's not forget that he was #1 with an older demographic. The type that NBC didn't want to cater to anymore. And that's why they moved Conan to the Tonight Show in the first place. Conan failed to bring over with him the younger audience he had on his old show. And he also failed to connect with the old farts that grew older watching the Tonight Show.

The fact that Leno is now #1 is only obvious. He regained all the old folk he had since the beginning.
