Fans of former celebrity stylist Shateria Moragne-el’s line Frontrow flocked to see the designer’s latest collection, “C.R.E.A.M,” at The Metropolitan Pavilion Tuesday evening. The show garnered one of the biggest audiences in the popular Style360 by Conair event, which runs alongside Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Before the show the young crowd mixed and mingled to the beat of hip-hop tunes; when the lights finally flickered off, a mad dash to procure a good view of the runway ensued in the packed house.
The downtown-chic pieces that Moragne-el sent down the runway were an immediate hit with the audience. The designer’s use of sleek leather for everything from curve hugging dresses, leggings, blazers, and trenches created a sophisticated yet wearable vibe. Deep olive leather stunned in the form of a simple long-sleeved crop top as well as a slim women’s trench. Leather detailing also added a cool touch to men’s blazers and bomber jackets.
The “C.R.E.A.M” line favored a deep color scheme of olive, red, black and brown. However, when one model appeared in a show stopping skintight dress made of brilliant white leather, the crowd went wild. A memorable men’s look featured black leather trouser pants topped by a deep red leather parka with contrasting black sleeves and fur-trimmed hood. The designer clearly favors edgy, but not outrageous, city wear. The line is sure to appeal to the urban sophisticate for Fall/Winter in 2013.
Notables in attendance included rappers Rick Ross and Trina.
