Con season begins in Colorado

When it comes to geek culture, Denver is one of the hottest spots in the country. Convention season officially kicks off next month and four stellar events lead the way. The year kicks off with GalaxyFest III and Animeland Wasabi 2014 in February. Right behind it is one of the longest convention traditions, Starfest in May, and then in June, fans have Denver’s hottest ticket to look forward to, the third annual Denver Comic Con. Calendars fill up fast in the Rocky Mountain area so be sure to mark these events in red.

GalaxyFest III

Kicking the year off right is the third annual GalaxyFest in Colorado Springs. Just to the south of Denver attendees gather to celebrate Sci-Fi, Steampunk, Anime, Fantasy, Zombies, and more with activities fun for all ages. Feb 21-23 at the Antlers Hilton in Colorado Springs. Celebrity guests including original ‘V’ star and Star Trek: Next Generation star Richard Herd, Ghost Hunters International's Paul Bradford, Lassie's original Timmy, Jon Provost, and James Hampton from F Troop and Teen Wolf. Plus plenty of gaming, videos, cosplay, costume contest, panels and workshops, and huge vendor room. Bonus for the adult crowd are the 18+ AfterDark activities including Kilt Blowing to risqué round tables that will focus on more mature themes for the adults.

Animeland Wasabi 2014

Not the average anime convention, Animeland Wasabi 2014 will be “bringing a pop culture event with an anime feel to Colorado." Denver area geeks have marked Feb 28 – Mar 2 down on their calendars for a weekend of full of cosplay, celebrity guests, live music, a dealer’s room, and a wide-range of activities. Animeland hosts this event which boasts an amazing list of celebs such as American voice actor John William DiMaggio, American actor, rapper and singer Jeremy Shada, actor Liam McIntyre, and actresses Ona Grauer, Teryl Rothery, Cassandra Morris, Kyle Cassie, Emilie Ullerup, and Johnny Yong Bosch. Animeland Wasabi 2014 is being held at the Crowne Plaza Denver International Airport.

Starfest 2014

For over 35 years Starfest has been one of the most anticipated events for Denver area geeks. This year will be no exception with celebrity guest Stargate: SG1 and Sanctuary’s Amanda Tapping already confirmed and Patrick Stewart invited, and more to be announced soon. This year Starfest takes place May 2-4 at the Marriott Denver Tech Center. Thousands of fans in to sci-fi, horror, anime, and comics will celebrate along with their families and friends with celebrity guests, kickass cosplay, fun and informative panels, video rooms, a fantastic dealer’s room, and the night many look forward to, the annual Federation Ball. Thanks to the Walker family for putting this together year after year.

Denver Comic Con

In its third year Denver Comic Con has soared to being the hottest ticket in town. Boasting the big names in geek culture, Denver Comic Con will have another banner year. Last year over 50,000 attendees packed the Colorado Convention Center with fun and excitement for all ages. This June 13-15 the Colorado Convention Center will welcome this event and tickets will go fast. As with the past two years the stellar celebrity list shines with Nicholas Brendon, Michael Rooker, Bruce Campbell, Walter Koenig, with comic artists Steven Kuc, Rachel Skarsten, Jason David Frank, Robert Axelrod, Jim Cummings, Allen Bellman, Colleen Doran. three-day literary conference, family friendly, pop culture focusing on Sci-Fi, fantasy, comics, Anime, and gaming to benefit the nonprofit Comic Book Classroom. Along with the celebrities there will be spectacular cosplay for all ages, a vendor's room to beat all others in the Rocky Mountain Region.
