Comprehensive immigration reform. We have heard these words touted by presidents both past and present. People are screaming for it. But what is immigration reform? What does it mean? After twenty plus years of debating, I’m certain no one knows.
To reform something we have to first show that reform is needed. Our country’s immigration laws are there, have been since the very beginning. They are simply not being enforced. How can we demand reform to our immigration laws when we do not recognize that we have immigration laws?
Today there are 12 million illegal aliens in the United States, half a million in Arizona. Many call for mass deportation, but that is truly unfeasible. So what do we do? Do we reward those who broke our laws with amnesty? Will forcing them to pay a fine, apply for citizenship and learn English be enough to deter others? I don’t think so.
The only way to significantly curb people from entering Arizona and the U.S. illegally is to remove the motive for doing so. It’s time to strictly enforce another law that our government officials do not recognize, The Legal Arizona Worker Act. This law was enacted in January of 2008 and states it is illegal to knowingly hire a person who is in this country illegally. Businesses who knowingly hire illegal workers risk losing their licenses for ten days after the first offense or altogether after the second offense.
By seriously enforcing this law, we remove the very reason the majority of people sneak across the border. If there is no work, they will not come. It is simple, it is logical and it is the law.

Well we are so worried about illegal Mexicans crossing the border illegally, but I have been trying to get someone here legally thru our visa process but our U.S. Embassy Counselors are unjust and prejudiced, and biased and deny one for no justifiable reasons to enter the U.S. but we can go to their country with no problem. Im speaking of the Philippines to here. So I agree we must reform all of our immigration rules and procedures ASAP and look at things for the good of humanity instead of the almighty $.
