A trash hauler, that uses a landfill West of Route 33 in Palmer Township, has proposed a compost and recycling center for Easton.
Chrin Brothers Inc. would accept branches, leaves, grass clipping --common household yard waste--, as well as food waste from large entities such as schools, restaurants, food banks and supermarkets.
These types of materials are broken down or decomposed rapidly by micro-organisms into a substance that can be used to enrich soil and earth for plant growing; this process is called composting or nature’s way of recycling.
The actual recycling center would not open with the composting section, but when it does open there are plans for it to accept various type of construction and demolition waste in addition to the normally recycled materials.
While there are many benefits to composting and recycling for any city or community, one of the biggest benefits to the Lehigh Valley for this proposed center could be in reducing the amount of waste going to the Palmer Township landfill.
The company hopes to receive an approval on its proposal by May 1 from Easton, but the city is requesting that the plans be looked over by the Environmental Advisory Council.
