The 86th Academy Awards at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood has just ended with directors Steve McQueen and Alfonso Cuaron walking as the night’s biggest winners.

McQueen’s gut wrenching story of a free man kidnapped into slavery, “12 Years a Slave” won the Best Picture of the Year award while Cuaron’s sci-fi thriller “Gravity” won the most Oscars with seven, including the prestigious Best Achievement in Directing and Best Adapted Screenplay for writer John Ridley.

Cate Blanchett won her second Oscar for her role in Woody Allen’s “Blue Jasmine” and Matthew Matthew McConaughey won his first Academy Award for his poignant performance in the drama “Dallas Buyers Club”. Both winners were heavy favorites to win their respective awards. Other Oscar winners included Best Supporting Actress Lupita Nyong’o for her role as a tortured slave in “12 Years a Slave” and Best Supporting Actor Jared Leto for “Dallas Buyers Club”.
