Community Tabs Chris Grooms as New Head Football Coach

Two weeks after Johnnie Frost resigned to become the Offensive Coordinator at Moore County, Community high school has named a new head coach.

Chris Grooms, who was the Co-defensive coordinator at Page the previous two seasons has been hired as the Vikings new head coach.

The Vikings are coming off a 2-8 season but Grooms has hit the ground running to change Community's fortunes.

"I'm very excited to get started," Grooms said. "I'm ready to give the kids the ball and let them run with it, they have been really receptive to everything we are trying to do and that's encouraging as a coach."

Before coaching at Page, Grooms was the head coach at Whitworth Buchanan Middle School in Murfreesboro.

After finishing high school, Grooms joined the Army and for nine years and was part of the Green Berets.

"Coach Grooms will bring energy to the Health and Wellness programs and a new direction for the football program," Community principal Robert Ralston said.

"We were fortunate to have over 30 resumes for the job but Coach Grooms was at the head of the class, especially with him being a Green Beret."
