'Community' scores healthy ratings bounce in second week

Good news for fans of Greendale College! NBC's cult-comedy "Community" saw a surprising ratings bounce in last night's airing.

Having returned from an extended hiatus last week with back-to-back episodes last week, the conventional wisdom would have been for the January 9 airing to experience moderate audience erosion.

Such was not the case. In fact, the 3.57 million households who tuned in for "Community" last night made it NBC's top rated Thursday night comedy. The positive number is partly a tribute to the show's rabid core of fans and a testament to how weak the rest of NBC's lineup has become.

Last night's episode was up 29% in total viewers from last season's second airing and represented a 17% increase among viewers aged 18-49, the all-important advertising demographic.

The show's strength may help earn it what had been considered an unlikely sixth season renewal.
