Now that Community’s Danny Pudi has popped up on Chuck (in an episode that will air this December), we should expect someone-- anyone!-- from the spy series to take a turn strolling Greendale’s campus, right? After all, last season when Pudi’s Abed appeared in the background of a Cougar Town scene, it was a reciprocated cross-over. And this time around Pudi is already good friends with Chuck stars Zachary Levi and Joshua Gomez. And, you know, they have the whole “same network” thing going for them, too…
Who doesn't love synergy!?
When it was announced that Pudi would be heading to the Buy More back over the summer, there was no announcement about anyone heading to community college, though. And when we caught up with Pudi on the Community set just last week, he confirmed nothing was shot as of yet on his own soundstage with his new pals. But the idea was still floating out there.
“Maybe after they’re done with the season, hopeful thinking, we get another season, and we get some of them over here then,” Pudi offered. “I used to be shocked that I was appearing all of a sudden on Cougar Town in the background, but now more and more worlds are being revealed, especially with Evil Abed and Evil Troy, like there’s all these alternate timelines. Who knows?”
Well, then, if minds are open, allow us to offer a few creative suggestions for how Community can best utilize folks from Chuck:
- Much like the “Abed delivering a baby in the background” throughline in the second season, perhaps one episode deals with a covert spy mission going on in the background of every scene. Of course, Abed, with his superior observational skills what they are, would have to take notice and at some point toward the end of the episode stop mid-conversation to walk over to Chuck (Levi) and/or Morgan (Gomez) who thought they was being so covert to ask him what’s going on. Mission aborted.
- Along those lines, Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) could always be undercover at Greendale, trying to blend, but her cover is blown because everyone-- from Pierce (Chevy Chase) to Jeff (Joel McHale) to Chang (Ken Jeong) won’t stop hitting on her.
- Jeff (Scott Krinsky), no longer high on the fumes from his car, decides to enroll in community college to finally make something of his life and just pops up as an extra in the study group’s classes.
- Another outbreak on campus (perhaps STDs this time since there has not been an STD Fair since ’09) causes Awesome (Ryan McPartlin) to have to save the day. And probably cause Annie (Alison Brie) to swoon, unintentionally starting a rivalry with Jeff.
- There are always dances and parties and events at Greendale. Why not hire Jeffster to perform!?
- Abed just randomly drives the Nerd Herd car around campus like a security golf cart with no explanation necessary.
