Next month the Community Music Center (CMC) will launch a new series of recital programs that will be called the Emerging Young Artist Spotlight series. These concerts will be organized and sponsored by CMC faculty members in order to provide San Francisco audiences with an opportunity to hear talented performers as they are just beginning to establish their careers. The first of these emerging artists will be thirteen-year-old piano prodigy Victoria Young in a recital sponsored by piano faculty member Betty Wong and violin faculty member Sin-Tung Chiu.
In the winter of 2011, Young used a CMC practice room to prepare for her trip to Kiev for the International Competition of Young Pianists in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz. She attracted enough positive attention that Russian members of the faculty encouraged her and gave her advice for visiting Kiev. Her prizes to date include the 40th Midland-Odessa Symphony concerto competition and the Grand Prize in the Chorale National Young Artists Competition.
Young’s recital will take place on Sunday, September 15, in the CMC Capp Street Concert Hall at 544 Capp Street in the Mission. It will begin at 3 p.m. It will be free and open to the general public.
