After Mike Colombo with KMOV-News investigated a conman who had allegedly taken advantage of a disabled man, the community stepped up to help. The conman is a local contractor who apparently has a track record of similar cons across the Saint Louis metropolitan area. Kevin Parker was left wheelchair bound following a severe car accident in October 2012. He paid contractor, Brian Thomas (aka: Brian Ecker) and his company, Buildings of Steel, $15,000 to do repairs and remodel his home; however, Thomas never finished the job.
According to KMOV-News, in 2006, then Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon sued Ecker for stealing tens of thousands of dollars from consumers with his business, B and C Custom Pools. He was ordered to pay back $117,000 in restitution and penalties while being permanently barred from the pool construction business.
According to the KMOV investigation, Thomas (Ecker) said he had no intention of giving Parker any money back. But he said he planned on finishing the work in his own time. The community has apparently come together to donate supplies and time to help Kevin Parker complete his remodeling and repairs.
Anyone who has ripped off by Brian Ecker - or Brian Thomas as he goes by these days - are urged to contact the attorney general.
