It is heartbreaking when your dog is not feeling well even though they can’t verbally tell you what ails them. As an educated pet parent, you know all the signs and symptoms of how your pet feels just by sight, signs and symptoms. The best way to keep your pet healthy is through regular visits at your local Rockford-area veterinarian as listed below or one closest to your home. Regular health maintenance is vital for your pet’s overall well-being.

Most often, there are some simple signs and symptoms to be aware of to know if your pet is not feeling well. Since your dog cannot verbalize to you what it is feeling, it is important to witness all the signals. It is true that dogs can tolerate much discomfort and try to keep their ailments to themselves but as an educated pet owner, you learn quickly what is and is nolt normal behavior exhibited by your pet companion.

The most common symptoms of a sick dog is lethargy, restlessness, change in eating habits, weight loss, disorientation, bloody urine, straining to urinate, seizures, vomiting and/or diarrhea, inability or difficulty to walk, labored breathing, seizures, persistent coughing, pale gums and unusual bleeding. You may notice some sores that can’t seem to heal. Since you know your pet the best, noticing anything out of the ordinary in its earliest stages is always the best scenario.

If your dog exhibits any of the above symptoms, it is a good idea to give your veterinarian a call and describe all the signs you see. You may be asked how long you have owned your dog, if this is a first occurrence, how long you have noticed the particular symptoms, if your dog is still eating and drinking and any other information you can provide the doctor. Your vet can then determine if it is something of concern that needs medical attention or advise you on how to care for your pet in minor cases. It is always best to be safe than sorry when it comes to the health and well-being of your pet companion.
