Commentary: The latest blunder with RWF should surprise no one

It seems Republicans simply cannot keep their feet on the ground and out of their mouths. The party has become known as the party of hate and for good reason. The reason is not that most Republicans hate anyone, because I do not believe that to be the case.

The problem stems from certain factions of the party faithful. If one attends Tea Party, Republican Women, and other conservative functions, without fail there are two or three people spouting off hateful comments towards immigrants, gays, Muslims, blacks, Hispanics or whatever their choice of victim may be at that moment in time.

Clearly, when this happens those around them are uncomfortable. But no one, and I mean NO ONE, speaks up and tells the offending party that the Republican Party is not the party of hate and such attitudes will not be tolerated.

In today’s world with electronic media that can record us just about anywhere, not speaking up for someone wronged can be tantamount to supporting the hatred. Internet postings, such as on Facebook and Twitter, are in cyberspace forever.

By definition, the Republican Party is the party that supports individual rights, success and freedom. Our platform does not support slavery, either physical or economic, hatred or bigotry. But conservatives will continue to be viewed as out of touch and hateful for as long as they refuse to cull those who are, in fact, out of touch and hateful, whether it is in the confines of a small gathering or online for the whole world to see.
