Commentary: Local TV news presenter makes entertainment out of a news report

On Tuesday, March 5th, Bill Riales of WKRG-TV commented and joked about a new list of billionaires from the publication Forbes to during the local newscast his station produced between 5:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. He expressed these feelings before and during the time he delivered a report about the list with the top five billionaires mentioned..

His expressions included his joking about Forbes not including his name in a list of billionaires again, his expressing sympathy for Warren Buffett being in fourth place among billionaires unlike the list released Forbes released in 2012 in which he was in third place (Bill Riales said, "Poor Warren"), and his feeling about Carlos Slim Helu, the person ranked number one on the list, having the "coolest name in the world" (Bill Riales referred to Carlos Slim Helu only by his first name and middle name).

Even though some folks may be too busy in the morning to stay focused on local newscasts, the folks who may have the time to focus on local newscasts deserve to have their news presented the same way news for other (serious) news programs ought to be presented. Entertainment and information should be kept separate during local news programs or else viewers and listeners of the programs would no longer take the folks combining both elements seriously or no longer watch or hear any more local news program from the stations.
