Commentary: Local broadcasters joining the 'ice bucket challenge' trend

See also

I personally found the recent Internet trend of folks being challenged to either have buckets of ice dumped over their heads or have money donated to organizations specialized in helping folks with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (also known as ALS) ridiculous, humiliating, torturous, unpleasant, and unnecessary, and the trend of local broadcasters joining this trend bad for their dignities and their careers, especially the broadcasters with careers in news gathering. I wish they had not joined this trend no matter what (whether they were being forced to do so or not) and had maintained their dignities instead of risking them for the sake for making more folks aware of a disease (news broadcasters should also maintain objective and serious stances). If they or their bosses really want to make more folks aware about this disease, all they could do is simply give them facts about its existence, provide reports about certain folks living with it, and provide information about organizations specialized in helping folks living with it.
